A huge thank you to everyone who has organised and participated in fundraising events for NOVAS over the last couple of months. Too many to mention all of them, we’d like to give a big shout out to a few people who did immense work in organising events for us:
Congratulations to Isobel Barry, Sean O’Shea, David Kennedy and Cathal O’Lonaigh, staff in Centra Dooradoyle, who recently took on the challenge of sleeping out for 24 hours outside of their store in Dooradoyle to raise funds for NOVAS. The Fab Four raised a whopping €2,850 through a combination of sponsorship cards and bucket collections.
We are delighted that the management and staff of Centra in Dooradolye nominated NOVAS as their chosen charity for this event. They kicked off on Thursday 23rd of February and braved no less than storm Doris over the next 24 hours, ending at 9 am on Friday, a little windswept, very tired but exhilarated at the amount they raised.
As part of our Schools programme we visited St. Patricks Comprehensive School in Shannon in early February. Pupils had been engaged in a social awareness project including the issues around homelessness. As part of this programme the pupils, under the watchful eye of teacher Emer Magee decided to fundraise and have a sleep-in. They set a target to raise €1,000.00 and picked a Friday night for the event. We believe that there was little sleeping on the night but great craic was had by the 40 pupils who participated. Each pupil was set a target to raise €25.00 for NOVAS services in order to participate and through the generosity of the people of Shannon they blew their target out of the water by raising €1,200.00 We would like to convey a huge thank you to the pupils, Principal Morgan Heaphy, teachers and also parents for their generosity of time and money.
We are also delighted to be the chosen charity for Specsavers Limerick for 2017. A Specsavers Team will be participating in The Great Limerick Run in aid of NOVAS and will be organising a number of events in aid of our services throughout the year. We are looking forward to collaborating with Specsavers and highlighting the work we do.
